Woma vs Spider

As I mentioned yesterday, I wanted to do a blog on Womas versus Spiders. They are pretty similar, and I went thru the collection to find the animals that looked the most similar to do this blog as well.

Now if you haven't guessed it yet, the one on the left is the Woma, the one on the right is the Spider. The major differences that are easily distinguishable are as follows:

Color: Womas are lighter (in general) than Spiders, as well as Spiders have the white sides. Womas do not. The darker areas of Womas are lighter in general than that of Spiders, which are usually black or dark.

Pattern: Womas tend to lack the alien heads, but there are examples of Womas with slight alien heads. Spiders exhibit the trait more often and again, the white sides are a dead giveaway.

Eyes: Womas tend to have darker eyes, while Spiders tend to have green. 

Head Pattern: Spiders have a distinct head pattern and golden head, but Womas have a light head in general. See photo below. Woma above, Spider below.

This photo is a great example of coloration differences as well as head pattern. I did this on purpose to hammer the point in. Yes, they look similar, but they are not the same.

Also, Womas tend to not wobble. I say tend to, because I don't like making absolutes when I'm not 100% sure.

I own several, and have yet to experience a wobble in the animals I am working with.

A few of what?

There are morphs out there that are a bit harder to identify than others... And those are the ones that seem to be hard to find and sometimes fade into obscurity, until one fine day a Breeder blends that morph with something else to make something AMAZING.

And then the demand shoots up like crazy.

Well, I hope to be one of those Breeders, and I got a few obscure morphs to share with you all.

Now of course, part of the reason these morphs are off the radar, so to speak, is because they don't have the WOW factor that some morphs (like the Albino, Pastel, etc) do.

So I have to admit, I didn't get into them as much as I would have liked, but now I have a few more to play with.

Welcome to the fold, Spotnoses, Pastel Het Red Axanthics, and Womas...

Spotnoses are not something that stand out at ALL. But they make the Powerball, as well as a bunch of amazing combinations that I can't wait to work with.

Pastel het Red Axanthics have always been a favorite of mine, because they actually do something to the Pastel that makes it interesting! If you share this photo with a newbie, they will be able to point out that yes, this Pastel has something else to it.

I love the blushing on the back of these gals... And the head coloration is also fantastic.

And of course, the Woma.  The Spider's non-wobbling distant cousin that has a Super form. They do look similar, and lucky for you, tomorrow I have the blog to compare them! I love Womas, and I can't wait to try my hand at making some fun combinations with them. This little girl is too small for plans yet, but that's alright. I can dream....

Cleaning pictures

Was cleaning out the subadult rack and I had a chance to take some pictures of the larger subadults.

I know it's been a while since we talked about these guys, so I thought it would be fun to bring them out again!

Above, we have the solid striped (and of course picky eater) Pastel Lesser female that I produced. Her sister is almost twice as big as she is, but of course, the one I admire the most is the one that gives me the most trouble.

Yeah. But she's still gorgeous, so who cares? Take your time, sweetheart.

And one of the Enchi females that I held back as well. This gal is dark. Yes, she is not the ultimate Enchi that everyone dreams about, but she will make some awesome combinations, so I am pretty excited about her coming to age next year.

My TSK Axanthic het Albino from the Snow fail/debacle. This year we shall see if we finally hit on one... Crossing all crossibles, but even if we don't, this gal should be up to size soon enough for me to play with. I WILL GET MY SNOW.

And last but not least, the hidden gem of my collection partially because I only have this one. Only one. This, my friends, is my Woma. I heart her, as I was looking for a clean Woma without any dots, as well as a nice blushing back and striping. I found her after months of searching, and I can't wait to figure out what the heck I'm going to do with her (next season, I would like to think...)

So this was only one of the racks I was cleaning, of course, so more photos soon, and I'm moving the males around tomorrow, so hopefully some lock photos soon too.
