Abnormalities and how to deal
As a breeder, you will experience problems, trials and tribulations. You will also experience joy and great pride in the animals you produce.
But, in this case, we are talking about the not so good times.
Abnormalities and deformations are a problem for any animal breeder. Of course, when life happens, things can go wrong.
In my personal experience, I have only had a few deformations with incubation issues or hatchlings.
Last year, I had one animal I had to freeze due to being deformed, and a few other issues in years past that have been logged in the blog.
With that being said, one problem deformation within a year and 30+ clutches is not a lot.
But, depending on the morph and depending on the incubation temps/mediums, that number can change drastically.
Take Caramels. Yes, they kink... Do you cull something that can survive if given the chance? That is up to you, the breeder.
If you do cull them, the numbers go up. If you don't, the numbers stay the same.
I personally only cull if there is NO possible way that the animal can survive alone and without assistance.
If assistance is needed (aka assist feeding, health issues, etc..), it is given. If the animal is just "messed up" but can survive, I give them to people I can trust to keep only as a pet.
Animals that are especially "messed up" should not be bred at all. That is a fact.
Problem with that is, what is your definition of "messed up"?
Spiders spinning may or may not be a big deal to you, but it may be to someone else. Same with small kinks and other issues. That is why some people breed or avoid specific morphs all together.
But when an animal can't eat or move or breathe correctly, that is a sure sign it needs to be humanely euthanized.
Another can of worms is how to humanely euthanize a snake... We can touch on that another day.
I know a few people that have had train wrecks of clutches where all the animals have needed to be put down. I also know many many others that have had no problems at all...
So it really is a matter of how you do your setup, how you breed, what you breed, and your incubation. And sometimes, it really doesn't matter what you do, and the genetics of the animal tends to lean towards problems.
Just know this as a final parting thought.
No matter what you do, you will have problems.
Deal with them appropriately and accordingly.
Live and learn, and teach others if you can.

Clutch 33
HAPPY NEW MONTH! (Rabbit Rabbit)
Well, this weekend was actually a clutch weekend (much to my surprise), so I will touch on all of your suggestions thru out the rest of the week!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE SUGGESTIONS!!!
This is clutch 33, and this is my largest proven het Caramel female. I have been creating a bunch of Caramels, and this gal laid 8 great eggs hopefully with many quality Caramels inside.
A few of the eggs didn't have much veining, so I am crossing my fingers that all eight are viable. They looked good and healthy, however, so we shall see!
The clutch laying is slowing down significantly, and this season looks to be a bunch of clutches now and a few stragglers in the next month. So of course, that is part of the reason why I asked for suggestions for the blog. I got a few golden ones!!! Thanks again, people, for helping this blog and being interactive!
I went out this weekend with the girls, did some stuff, saw some things, but had the camera when we were walking thru a very pretty area. So here are some random photos of a Koi pond that we walked thru. I hope you enjoy them.
Sometimes, simple things are the best things.
Koi are a fascinating breed of fish as well. SO MANY COLORS!
Ball Pythons and Koi... awesome variety of colors.
I'd love to have a Koi pond.

Mojave..Spider...Pastel
Clutch 14 is out, and all 10 eggs were fantastically fine! My odds were good in terms of morphs, as there are no normals in the clutch, but I have to say, my sex odds had a little to be desired.
That's alright though.

One Bumblebee, One Mojave Spider, 3 Mojaves, and a Pastel Mojave Spider...

I am in love. I really do like this combination... I look forward to seeing her grow up.

Yawn....
I am tired.
There are things that are happening in life that are getting pretty busy, including the snake stuff, and as you all well know, the more stuff to do, the busier one is, and the less time for sleep there is.
Thus, I am tired.
I get up way earlier than I used to, drive farther than I used to, do more stuff than I did before, and come home and do all the snake stuff, as well as the family stuff and the plans for the future stuff.
Sometimes I wish I had a pause button... Wouldn't that be great?
Take a pause moment, do what needed to be done, sleep in a bit, etc....
Play with snakes without worrying that there is not enough time to do it.
Ahhhh, that would be awesome.
But sadly, this is not the case, life runs faster than ever, it seems, and sleep is a luxury I cannot afford right now.
But that is somewhat acceptable.. Somewhat.
The more time I work at snakes and real life, the more time I get to enjoy them later!
Especially all of the new cool babies I get to watch hatch out and grow in the next few months.
The Mojave Spider to Pastel clutch is pipping, and there should be some awesome stuff in there to share very soon.
Until then, however, send all good wishes and energy you can to me. I'm going to need it.

Revamping!
Well, yes, I have come to a turning point in my collection, and I have to say that I am officially running out of room.
I do not have much more space to keep EVERYTHING, which is why I am selling off a few breeders to compensate.
While that is happening, I am basically smooshing animals together.
What does that mean?
Well, it means I am taking projects that have several animals and combining them into one to make things more conducive to productivity.
Pastel + Genetic Stripe = Pastel Genetic Stripe
Spider + Pastel Lesser = Queen Bee
Etc... etc...
So of course, I have to move those animals that do not quite fit into the smooshing plan. Which is a shame, because I have raised some animals from egglings.
Makes me sad... But with the lack of space... it has to happen. Such is the way of an expanding breeder.
But on the flip side, new stuff is always fun to plan with!
So welcome to the fold, Pastel Genetic Stripe. You are awesome, and I will have many females that I have raised from egglings for you next season!
Don't be sad. My Solid Genetic Stripe line is still strong! A few eggs should be hatching soon from Mister Solid, and I have several females that are growing up.
So there you go. Revamping, moving on... such is life, my friends. Have a great day.

Clutch 32
I am always so glad when females lay eggs. The waiting is done, the eggs are there, and then the other wait....
But at least the first part is done.
This is my Pewter female, and she gave me a good six eggs this year from either Mojave Spider or Pastel Super Mojave. Should be a great clutch!
Other than that, I am still trying to wrap my head around the last Mystery clutch, and basically trying to see what is going on with the next few clutches to hatch. The next one due is Mojave Spider to Pastel, so that should be a good one!
I can't wait to see what that one brings.
And as for me, working full time again has brought a few time constraints on me, but I am trying to keep up! Forgive me if I don't respond to your e-mails as quickly as I used to...
