Clutches and Boo...

So I've been taking more of a hiatus, since I am counting down to the wedding and it's getting ridiculously close. There will probably be many more hiatuses in the next few weeks, but in June, I'll be back, BABAY!

I went into the snake room to feed and clean on Friday night, and found several clutches.

Here is the first one. This female is a first time breeder for me, and the first Hypo I have had lay eggs!

Yes, I've been behind in my Ghost-ness, and I still am.

But this female was bred to the Enchi Butter het Hypo, so I'm really hoping to jump into Hypo awesomeness with this clutch.

Should be good, although she did give me a slug. Sadness...

This sight was exciting, although I am pretty sad about the egg count. She was a big girl, around 2500 grams before she laid..

She gave me four good eggs and a slug.

Oh well.

Better luck next time, eh?

But she was bred to Mystery males, so this clutch of four will answer several issues, including what exactly she is! Should be a fun one..

And on Sunday, I caught this girl on eggs. I didn't even expect her to go, and of course, with that in mind, I took her off her clutch.

ONE EGG.  FOUR SLUGS

Ouch.

Again, oh well.

First time breeder, first time laying eggs for me.

This is a boo-boo clutch, but hopefully something awesome will pop out of the one legit egg.

All in all, not too shabby, but still could be better. Slugs galore, so far. This is kinda painful.

Anyway, have a great week, my friends!

Random Musings and Pictures and Break!

Today is one of those days that nothing really snakey is going on.

I am really going on a limb here and going to take a break for a few days. I am actually going to visit family again, and attend a wedding during the season of weddings!

Joel and I have already been to one so far this year, and this is going to be the second.

So with that, I am preparing to leave today as well as get everything in order, which entails a lot of making sure things are okay.

We are expecting a few more clutches, no more than 10 more, and then the season here at Heather's Herps should be done. Problem is, the next few clutches look like they are going to come in this weekend. We shall see what happens, eh?

And yes, I will have help watching over what is happening when I am gone.

No problem. I'm just worried that there will be enough tubs for any more clutches, and anymore space in the incubators...

The next clutch to hatch out should be hatching out this weekend as well. Looks like ALBINOS!

I tried the female with the POG, but apparently Albinos are the thing! No problem. I can handle that.

Can't wait to see them hatch out!

So yes, we will continue our daily meetings on Monday, my friends.

I hope you can wait until then.

Have a fantastic weekend, my friends!

Shed Quiz answers and a break

Well, this will be my last blog of the week.

I'm leaving for the rest of the week for Washington DC where I will be the proud big sister of a graduating law student.

So to tide you over, I will give you the quiz answers. I am actually compiling more photos of other morphs, but for now, I'm going to let that happen later.

Shed number one: Sable

Shed number two: Caramel Albino

Shed number three: Black Pastel

Note that the pictures of the animals that are being provided now are not necessarily those of the animals that had shed recently. I tried to find the pics of the actual animals, but I failed.

I hope you enjoyed the game, and know that there will be another on Monday/Tuesday when I get back.

Have a fantastic week, my friends!

Darkness falls

I realize I seem to touch on this topic every week or so, but I wanted to do a photo expose on the dark morphs while I had a chance.

I love taking pictures with morphs NEXT to each other for contrast. Most people only get to see the morph on its own, beautiful in its own right, but when questions arise like "How can you tell X morph is X morph, compared to the Y morph, which is similiar?"

Well, here we go.

Lets begin with the Sable. It is a subtle morph, but what you can see are the large black alien splotches, granite spots in the alien heads (alien heads are the golden patterns on the sides on the black background), and a very dark black overall color.

Next are the Cinnamons. They are a dark brown overall color, with a nice cinnamon colored head. The alien heads can be and usually are attached to each other towards the vent area, and are a golden chocolate color. They have nice flames on the sides underneath the alien heads, and the alien heads are bubbles instead of eyes (one spot inside instead of two). The most distinctive characteristics of Cinnamons is the head coloration.

And last but not least, the Black Pastel, which is very similar to the Cinnamon in terms of what it can do in combinations, but looks very distinctive. The Black Pastel has an overall black background, interspersed with a bright golden alien head pattern. Unlike the Cinnamon, which is a muted chocolate, the alien heads on the Black Pastel are golden brown. Similiar to the Cinnamon, the Alien heads are bubbles, but have a black lined pattern around the bubbles. This characteristic is indicative of the Black Pastel.

And here is a side by side of the Black Pastel and the Cinnamon in terms of the black and brown tones I was trying to describe. Next to each other, it is obvious that the Black Pastel is more golden, while the Cinnamon is more brown.

They both have a Super that is a solid black or dark grey snake, so people tend to combine them together. They are individual morphs, but do similar things.

And now we throw the Sable in the mix. In order from left to right, there is the Black Pastel, Cinnamon and Sable.

Now that the Sable is in the mix, it is again obvious why I call it a subtle morph. It looks normal next to the other two, but Sables are a proven morph. They have a Super that some people consider a Hypermelanistic. Hopefully in a year or so I can share with you what the Super Sable looks like. Until then... google.

I think that I should have thrown in a normal as well, but I didn't think about it at the time.

Anyway, hope this helps you guys figure out what you have.

Have a great day, my friends!
