Shades of Spider and Fire

I have been coming home late, but trying not to shirk on the need to take some awesome photos to share on the blog. Today is no exception. I decided to compare some Spiders for everyone, in different flavors to get a general idea of how things work with some of the more subtle morph combinations.

Above, we have a Spider Fire and an Enchi Spider. Both morphs of Fire and Enchi are subtle in their own way, and when combined with a Spider, they get much more so. When I hatched out my Enchi Fires, I wasn't 100% sure they were Enchi Fires until they shed. They have a gorgeous undertone of gold and orange, and a very cool pattern to boot.

Fire Spiders are just melty. Yes... Melty. Fires tend to be melty on their own, smokey in a way. You can see that the color is granulated, blends together, and is much lighter than that of a normal spider.
I really like what Fires do to things, and Spiders are no exception.

Now below, to the left we have the Mojave Spider. Mojaves aren't particularly subtle on their own, but when blended with a Spider, it takes its own form. Spider Mojaves more often than not are SPOTTY. Mojaves have that pattern, and it carries over into the combination. The overall color tone is muted greens, purples and golds, again that of the Mojave. A very cool morph, and a very cool combination.

So all of these photos and color descriptions to what end, Heather?

To assure you that Spiders are awesome, colors are fun, and there are tons of things to be done with Spider combinations in the future.

And Fires?

Well, Fires are awesome. They are one of my favorite "hypo" lightening up morphs for all that they can do, and here are two sisters that just shed out for me.

The Firefly female and the Fire female are looking amazing. They are the best I have hatched out so far in terms of Fires. Look at them glow!

You can tell they are related, based on the blushing and flames on the back and sides.
Seriously.. Fires are amazing.

I'm done sharing these photos for now. More photos tomorrow, hopefully of penes and lack thereof. Gotta make sure Joel gets home in time for me to remember to nag him. HAH!

Clutches hatched

All of these clutches have hatched out over the last few days, and I have to say I'm happy-pointed.

Yes, that says Happy-Pointed. Happy and dissapointed all at the same time.

Let's begin.

This clutch is the Possible Double het Hypo Albino female to the Albino male. Guess what? This is disappointment. This is the third year she has not proved out to be either Het Albino or Het Hypo. She is now a normal, and she is up for sale. I always get beautiful babies from her, but with the space issue becoming more of an issue, I'm willing to let her go.

And then the happy part...

This unexpected clutch from my Blurry girl to a Mystery male turned out to be the Firefly, and all of these critters are beautiful females! A Firefly, a Fire and a Normal.

And another bout of happy! The Spider possible het Albino proved out, but did not produce a Spider Albino for me... Disappointment.  But much more happy than disappointment...

So.... Happy-ment?

1.0 Spider het Albino, 2.1 Albino, 0.2 Het Albinos

I love it. Now the next clutches to hatch are a disappointment clutch of two normals out of the four eggs left (two more went bad) from my Normal to a Mystery male, and my Lemonblast to het Red Axanthic clutch which has not pipped yet.

So I will get to the popping questions tomorrow, with a few other surprises and things to share. This week is going to be fun!

Clutch 28 and updated hatchlings

Clutch 28 is on the ground, and I have to say I am glad. This is the third of the possible double het Albino Hypo females that has to lay. She and her sisters are never nice, but they always do well during the breeding season. 

When I took her off the eggs, this female was the hardest to keep calm.

She struck at me at least ten times. 

Gotta love the feisty ones.

She laid a fantastic six eggs (yes, there are six, but in this photo you can only see five..)

We are going to prove her out to be Het Albino this time. Fingers crossed, since this one didn't prove Het Hypo last year.

Incubator is not full anymore, since things keep hatching!

This clutch was clutch #6, which hatched before clutch #5.

Firefly male to Spider female.

I KILLED the odds on this one, and I am so happy with the results. At first I thought I was seeing things when they were pipping, but... nope!

1.0 Spider, 0.2 Firefly Spiders, 2.1 Fire Spiders

ALL of them are Spiders!!!

I'm hoping this clutch doesn't suck up all of my luck this year... 

Clutch #5 hatched the day after the last Spider from the other clutch came out.

This TSK Axanthic Spider is amazing! I am so blessed with this one, since I am working towards the Killer Bee Axanthic. This little female came with a lot of luck as well, and she is 50% possible het Albino to boot! I am so excited!

Apparently this will be the year of the Spider, eh? 

Clutch #7 hatched over the weekend as well, and didn't end up as well as I had hoped. 

The Hypo proved to be Het Pied, but the Pied didn't prove to be Het Hypo. 

One of the eggs went bad, (The one that fell) but the rest of them came out fine!

Clutch #21 and Clutch #2 pipping!

I am ashamed to say that I forgot to post up Clutch #21 on the blog. 

I've had Clutch 21 on the ground for several days, since Friday, to be exact.

I even caught the female laying! 

I had these photos, posted them up on the website, and went to the show... and forgot to write about it. 

WHOOPS!

This Black Pastel female is my original female that I had from the beginning, and she never bred for me until this season. I bought a 1.1 pair back in 2006 and this female was part of that group. She grew up but never big enough for me to want to put her in rotation. Until this season. 

So I caught her in the act, and was cheering her on. 

Four eggs is not too bad. She should have given me a few more considering her age, but I will get her up and running again for next year and see what happens.

Four gorgeous eggs! They are pretty large. I am excited to see what I can get out of this. 

Firefly is the Daddy, so Pewter Fires will be a great option! Fingers crossed. 

And clutch #2 is pipping, just with one head. Looks like the Special was the Daddy on this one. 

Fingers crossed for a few more heads in the next few days!

I did cut them, and there looks like there is another egg with a Crystal in it, but it's not moving (neither are any of the others), and that always gets me nervous. 

KNOCK ON WOOD.

Clutches 6 and 7

 On Friday afternoon, I stepped in the snake room to this.

 My Spider het Blurry (a trait I am dinking with) finally laid her eggs. This clutch was well anticipated, as she was with my Firefly male. 

These Bumbleflies are going to be awesome.

6 eggs, one slug. 

One slug I can handle. 

Into the incubator they went, and the weekend commenced. 

Went to a wedding, got to hang out with some Marines, had some wine, had some cake. Good times to be had by all. 

On Sunday, after recovering from the wedding, I had a few things to do around the house. Didn't get into the snake room at all until later in the afternoon/evening. 

And when I got in there, this is what I saw.

YAY FOR THIS CLUTCH!

This clutch is highly anticipated as a possible double recessive visual clutch.

My Hypo het Pied male with this Pied 50% poss het Hypo female. 

I really hope to at least get a Hypo out of it. COME ON, BABY!

Six chances at a Hypo Pied (hopefully), although I did manage to drop an egg in the transfer process. Didn't look any worse for wear, so we will keep an eye out on the egg and hope for the best. 

So there are the next few clutches that are here already. WOW! Clutch Seven... 

Phew...

Anyway, I hope you all noticed the change over the weekend with the new website. Check it out, let me know what you like, what you don't, what needs to be changed, etc. This is the "get the kinks out" time. Help a sister out.

Firefly planning

Since yesterdays excitement with the lock between the Pastel Super Mojave and his gal, I have to say I'm at a loss as to what to talk about.

The importance of that pairing to me is epic.

So I am mentioning it again, but also trying to think of something else to talk about in terms of the animals I am working with. 

I have to say, when I get the Firefly to size in terms of breeding, I can't wait to pair him up with his gals as well. I think a Bumblefly would be FANTASTIC, so that will be a plan. 

I may even incorporate him in with a Mojave female, a Pastel Lesser female.... 

Oh the possibilities. 

Plus I can't wait to hatch out my own Super Fires. Yellow Splotches, here we come!

 

 And of course, while I am waiting on that project, other animals grow up as well.

Spiders are great morphs to combine with other things. I have the trio of Spiders het Axanthic poss het Albino I can't wait to prove out. Spider Snows are one of my planned projects, and I think it will be a fantastic animal!

But of course, there will also be the Bumblefly. I think this gal would work well into that plan. 

And this one too... This is one of my Mojaves. 

She has fantastic color, and I think I may put her into a project that uses her colors and pattern to her benefit. Maybe a Genetic Stripe? That would be pretty... Hopefully the side colors stay around.

But for sure, the Firefly to one of the Mojave girls as well.

Whew... That Firefly will be busy!! 

I'm sure he'll appreciate it when the time comes.

Firefly

I have always loved Fires as a base morph, more so because they have an amazing super, as well as a really awesome potential to brighten everything up. 

I am so glad to be able to be working with them now, and I have to say that I really love looking at them and watching them brighten up as they get older. 

Now with Fires come the combos, and I am truly blessed to have found a great example of a Firefly that now resides in my collection.

I have yet to name him, but here he is. I can't WAIT to use him in the next few years in terms of breeding potential. I have SO MANY PLANS! 

He is absolutely fantastic, and what I love about him (and find it kinda interesting) is that his first half is FIREFLY!!!! (in your face bright and on fire) and the second half is striped.

He fits in the striped section so well that I am tempted to put him in with a Genetic Stripe and see what happens. Maybe even one of my not genetic Striped females... Ooooohhh... Stripey Super Pastel Lesser Fire. That would be AMAZING!

So I am really looking forward to using him, if you couldn't tell. I absolutely adore the Super form of Fire as well, so I can't wait to use him for that as well.

Sometimes I wonder if he isn't a Super Pastel Fire, but I think I am getting my hopes up. He's just so BRIGHT!

Anyway, enough gushing over my Firefly.

Super, not so Super, and Helpers

I have a constant shadow in my room with me if I let it in. Kona is always in the room if the door is open. I was cleaning a tub that I can't reach, and was on my stepstool, and look down, and there was a puppy on the ground looking up! She appears out of no where...

Unfortunately she doesn't help.

If she could, that would be much more interesting, but she just stares at the rodents.

Oh well...

Anyway, in terms of random photo shoots, I decided to do some BRIGHT animals to start out with.

This is my Firefly, the Fire Pastel. He is absolutely stunning, and I really really really like him. He was one of those once I saw him, I had to have him animals.



And this is my Super Pastel. She is a stunner as well, but a complete brat and loves to be angry all the time.



Here they are together to show you the difference in shade of neon yellow... The Firefly is still brighter, but the Super Pastel is still bright (and angry).



I really like how these photos show the difference in coloration between the two morphs. Both have Pastel, but both are different in nature. Once the Firefly is ready, I want to have a Superfly (Super Pastel Fire) to compare to as well. I'm sure it will burn my eyes in terms of brightness, and I can't wait to see it!



And what about Pastels compared to the Firefly?

No contest.

Pastels are still amazing in their own right, but... here is the obvious proof that there are some excellent brighteners in terms of base morphs to make things pop!

Remember, just add a Fire to the Pastel, and you can get something THAT much brighter! WOW!



Now if only these amazingly bright animals and others could help clean up...

Wishful thinking, I know.
