Clutch 39 and Mojave Combos (again)

Welcome to the world, Clutch 39! There are five eggs from my Special female to a Mystery male. This should be a fun clutch! I just need it to hatch without any problems... Fingers crossed!

And although I am trying to compile some photos for the sexing blog, I'm not quite there yet, so here are some pictures of a new pick-up and comparision.

Welcome to the fold, Jigsaw!

I really love Pinstripes with a solid stripe, and this gal has it all going on! Jigsaws are Mojave Pinstripes, and this girl has an extra genetic bonus of being Het Hypo as well.

She should be a great addition to the group.

And of course, I had to do my famous comparison photos...

Mojave Spider against the Mojave Pinstripe.. The colors are similar, but there is more yellow in the Spider combo than the Pinstripe combo. It's interesting to see the change within a genetic combination by changing pattern. I love pictures like this, and I hope you do too!

 

I managed to pick up another critter at Anahiem, a long awaited addition, but it is in shed, so we will have to wait for the unveil until after it sheds.

So tomorrows blog should be the sexing blog, and hopefully a few other things will be covered as well.

Crystal Special Mojave Complex

Alrighty.

All of the Special/Crystal/Mojave/Normals out of the last Crystal clutch have shed out, and I want to do another "How can you tell what it is" Blog.

So here we go!

In this photo, we have a Mojave, a Special, a Normal, and in front, the Crystal. 

Most people have a very hard time identifying a Special from a Normal.

The difference, at least with the Baker line that I am working with, is the color. 

They are BRIGHT.

Similar to that of a Vanilla or Fire coloration. 

I do not have a Vanilla to share with you to compare the colors, but it is the most similar morph to a Special that would hatch coloration wise as a baby.

Yes, it is easy-ish to tell what is normal and what isn't when you have comparisons.

Below, we have What plus What equals What!

Special in the back left, Mojave in the back right, and Crystal all washed out in the front.

Notice that the Special and the Mojave have the same color tones. Yellow and bright are the characteristics here.

And below, we have an older Crystal that is developing the nice orange and violet tones that they tend to get over time. 

I am falling in love with this girl, and I'm not sure what I should do about it.

(Shhhhh... Don't tell Joel)

Anyway, I hope the photos and visuals help more in what I know is a complicated identification for most.

Life changes and Clutch 11

Well, things are changing a bit, and I need to re-evaluate a few projects.

The Special male is one of those animals that when I went thru the collection, I decided I could move without losing too much.

So not only do I have breeder females and males on the available page, I now have this guy up for sale. It was a hard decision, but I need to get a few things done in life, and this guy being sold will help me do that.

Damn you, real life and responsibility!

And of course, on top of that, things are hatching. My mystery clutch has hatched, and it is no longer a Mystery! The father was Spotty McGillicutty, and the mother (who we knew) was a Pastel.

Unfortunately for me, I missed out on my Killerbee. But I got some Spiders and a Bumblebee and a Super Pastel out of it!

1.1 Spiders, 1.0 Bumblebee, 1.0 Super Pastel, 1.0 Pastel, 0.1 Normal

Somewhat a sausage fest... but at least I know it was Spotty who sired the clutch!

I am swimming in Spiders again.

The next clutch due are Pieds and the Mojave x Mystic clutch... Fingers crossed for more babies by Monday!

Clutch #22 and babies!

Clutch #22 is on the ground, and I am a little annoyed with this one. This Spider girl is the one that gave me eggs last season and all went bad from my Queenbee clutch. 

She gave me five good eggs this season, but not without making the tub absolutely disgusting and laying in her own waste. And of course the eggs are in the waste as well. 

I got them pretty quickly, I think, so here we are. 

And I also have no idea what the heck are in these eggs. 

I bred this female thoughtlessly. 

She was a female that I was debating about giving a year off, so I never wrote on the tub what I put in with her. 

AT ALL.

So of all the Mystery clutches I have, this one is the biggest mystery.

 These eggs better survive...

You can kind of see where they were in liquids?

Yeah.. Not happy about that. 

Anyway, here is clutch #1 shed out!

Again, we had 1.1 Pastels, 1.1 Super Pastels, 1.0 Super Pastel Lesser.

They look good, eh?

I will be putting them up on the available page soon.

And Clutch #2 has completely hatched out.

I am not going to call what they all are, because I do want to make sure I'm sure. Shedding is required for this clutch, so that I don't mistake things for other things.

But I did get two female Crystal Thingies, 1.1 Mojaves and 2.0 Thingies.

The reason why I am not calling both of them Crystals (the pink one I am sure of) is because of the color... The one on the right is just much darker and I'm not sure how it will turn out after it sheds. I am hoping its a Mystic Potion, but I'm not completely convinced. And since this is my first hatching of the morph, I am not 100% sure.

The same is being said of the normal looking animals. So I will wait and call them when they hatch out for now. Caution is important for morphs like this.

WOOHOOO!!!

Yesterday was a great day, for me and for the Nation.

I usually try to things on this blog on snake topics mostly, but I have to put this out there.

Osama Bin Laden has been dispatched.

Thank you to our Military for all that you do and God Bless America!
What a momentous and glorious occasion, and as the President said it best "Justice has been served."

This isn't the end of the war, but it is something that has been a long time coming. 

While feeling all warm and fuzzy (yet vigilant and pensive) about what was happening, I didn't forget to go into the snake room to finish watering the adults.

And when I went in the room, other than feeling jubilation and a bit sweaty, I felt the need to check on Scar.

And guess what?

NOTHING.

Seriously.

So I went about my merry way, watering snakes and dancing around the snake room as I often do.

Lo and behold, I find this!

This wasn't one of the girls on Egg Watch 2011 yet, but I'll take it!

She was bred this season to the Mystic male mostly, but also the Special male just as a backup. So this clutch should be a good one either way. Six good eggs, my friends!

What a way to start the week and the month, eh?

I love it.

Mystics, Specials and Others

Mystics versus Mojaves versus Specials

Here we go, Rex!

Mojave on the top, Mystic on the bottom.

Mystics are darker, just overall more "normal" looking, with blushing and floating heads similar to those of the Mojaves.

Mojaves are cleaner, lighter in overall color without any black, and more blushing and flames than the Mystics usually carry.

Overall, if you've heard that Mystics are low grade Mojaves, that is somewhat correct.

Now you can see for yourself.

And Mystics versus Specials... Special on top, Mystic on the bottom.

Similar pattern, but Specials are lighter, with more blushing. Flames are similar, and that is something to look for in both morphs, but mostly the coloration. Lighter!

So there you go, my friends.

I realize that my Mystic isn't the perfect example of the morph, or this would be a bit better of an educational tool. Give me another year.

Well, Isn't that Special...

I am on a ROLL with these movie and TV quotes, my friends. I'm quite proud of myself.

Anything to intigrate current day (although not so current day by SNL standards) social commentary into my blogs...

I digress.

This is what you guys have ALL BEEN WAITING FOR, and although I have touched on this before in past blogs, current events are current events, and yes, I must share with you what you have asked for. Such is my duty, my friends...

Here is a Special. Just a plain jane Special. Base morph, combine it with stuff to make more stuff.

They are rather normal looking, although they are not, when placed next to a normal.

As the other blog touches on, the Special morph is a very subtle morph. It is easier to see what you are looking for when you notice the small things. Granitey pattern, lighter coloration, bright flames up the sides, and a general interesting look to them.

And as they grow, it gets less obvious, but still significant.

Here is my breeder female. If I told you she was a normal, you would believe me, right? Yeah... it's like that. Subtle. She is generally lighter than my normals, and maybe in the next few days she will have a blog dedicated to her and other morphs next to her.

But there you go, my friends. There you go!

Clutch #33: What we've all been waiting for

She finally blew, and I am absolutely thrilled!!

The Special female sitting on eggs. These last two clutches have been big ones, and I am very excited for them hatching out to see what happens.

She is a good mother, as I checked on her earlier on, she was still laying and not coiled up around them. Now? Look at that, you can barely see any eggs!

But as I do with all my gals, I took her off her eggs. She seemed very reluctant to let them go, which is always unnerving. I have had eggs fall out of coils before, and these eggs falling out would SUCK!

But no worries, everything worked out easily without any problems.

And here is the result.

I am very excited, and in two months, I will be able to show you all what is inside these little gems.
